STEP #2: Determine Rear Crossmember Position and Position of Bunks/Rollers
...
so the boat will set on the trailer with the best weight distribution possible.

A. Set boat on trailer while maintaining no less than 2" gap between keel and tongue plate cover.

The end of the bunks/rollers should be flush with transom and the boweye should reach the winch post. If this is so, the rear pivot should remain in the A-position.

If the boat sticks out beyond the bunks/rollers then move the rear pivot adjustment to the B-position.

B.
Once the rear pivot horizontal adjustment has been set, determine if the vertical adjustment should be in the 1 or 2 hole position.

Check the fender and crossmember clearance - these should be no less than 3/4". If these are less than 3/4", move the rear vertical pivot adustment to the #2 position.

In addition, the tongue plate to keel clearance should be no less than 2". If this clearance is less than 2", move the rear pivot horizontal adjustment to the B-position. If the rear horizontal pivot adjustment is already in the B-position, you'll need to refigure trailer choice.

C. Decide on approximate location of bunk/roller placement for proper hull support and stability.

D. Measure to the outside of the strakes that are closest to the approximate location of the bunks/rollers.

E. Add 1" to this measurement to assure that the inside of bunks/inside of outside rollers will be approximately 1/2" on the outside of the strakes. Set bunks/rollers to these measurements.

F. Check bunks/rollers location.
  • End of bunks/rollers should be flush with transom.
  • For bunks, the gap between bunks and strakes should be 1/2".

  • For rollers that straddle the strakes, there should be approximately 1/2" gap between strake and inside of outside roller. For rollers that do not straddle strakes, there should be approximately 1/2" gap between strake and outside of inside roller.

G. With the weight of the boat on a bunk or all roller trailer, front bunk or roller height depends on the "V" of the boat. Distance between the keel and front crossmember pad should be no less than 3/4".

With the weight of the boat on a roller trailer, the keel should set on the keel roller; if it does not, you may have to install a keel riser kit. Also check that the boat is not sloping downhill or is not less than 2" from the tongue plate.

H. Make sure boat is centered (engine should be on boat). Check fender clearance. There should be at least 3/4" between the boat and fender. If less than 3/4" exists between the boat and fender, check for additional vertical adjustment on bunk bracket or riser kit or raise the rear vertical pivot adjustment to the 2nd hole.
